GREGORIS RENTIS

Gregoris graduated from Imperial College London with an MEng in Electrical Engineering and then moved to Los Angeles to earn his MFA in Film Directing from California Institute of the Arts. After his graduation short film Sundown premiered in Rotterdam Film Festival, he went on to direct award-winning commercials and music videos, making him one of the most sought-after directors in Greece. His collaborations include star athletes NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and James Rodriguez, clients like Aegean Airlines, Ikea, Lidl, Upfield and P&G as well as music label SubPop Records. He is co-owner of Athens-based production companies Topcut-Modiano and BYRD.

His first documentary feature Dogwatch, exploring the lives of mercenaries protecting vessels from pirate attacks along the Somali coastline, won the Silver Alexander award in Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival and screened in competition in Visions Du Réel, True/False, and Raindance film festivals to high critical acclaim. His next project, the fiction feature film Sydney Smile Future Perfect, is being developed as part of EAVE Producer’s Workshop and has been selected for Thessaloniki’s pitching forum, Crossroads. While inspired by reality, Gregoris’ work departs into a stylised, evocative and, often, absurdist territory.
